Located in the heart of the Wairarapa, Carterton’s popular Festival offers an abundance of activities ranging from the famous Daffodil picking at Middlerun, markets along High and Holloway Streets, the Big Wai Art sale in the events Centre, Daffodil Express Steam Train rides, horse & carriage rides, the opportunity to wonder round the immaculate grounds of Carrington House and loads more family fun.

Q. Where can we buy the Carterton to Masterton Express Steam Train tickets?
A. The following locations are selling Daffodil Express Train tickets:

Q. How much?
A. Wellington trains boarding at Wellington Station, Petone, Waterloo and Upper Hutt costs:
Adults $95 and Children U13 $55. Infants under 2 are free.

Wairarapa tickets departing at Carterton to Masterton are $20 each.

Q. Will the Metlink trains still operate per their timetable?
A. Yes. Visit the Metlink website for times:

Note: You will need to purchase Metlink tickets for Metlink trains.
Daffodil Express Train tickets do NOT apply to Metlink trains.

Q. What roads are closed in Carterton during the event?
A. The following road closures will apply during Daffodil Festival:
Holloway Street – from High Street to Carterton School;
Nelson Crescent (to house No. 30);
Memorial Square from Park Road entrance around to exit into High Street;
Broadway Street from High Street to William Wong Place

Q. Can we drive out to Middlerun?
A. NO! For safety reasons please do NOT drive your vehicle to Middlerun for the daffodil picking. There is no space to park and you will be faced with a long walk along an open road. Please catch one of the FREE daffodil buses from Carterton.

Q. Are there buses to get to the daffodil picking? How much, where and when?
A. Free buses will be running throughout the day between Carterton & Middlerun for the daffodil picking – first bus departs at 9:45am.
Buses will depart from Mason Street, Carterton. All busses will take passengers out to the rural Gladstone property, and return to Broadway (outside Kings Woodworking).
Buses will depart from 9:45am, throughout the day and are completely FREE. Just wait at Kings Woodworking, on Masson Street and jump on the next available service.
Daffodil picking will cease at 3:00pm.

Q. What should I wear to Middlerun?
A. Middlerun is a rural property and we strongly advise you dress warmly or bring with you warm clothes and a jacket. Don’t forget to wrap the kids up warm too. It is ESSENTIAL you wear appropriate footwear. Gumboots are advised or sneakers. Expect them to get dirty if there has been recent rain.

Q. How much is Middlerun?
A. Middlerun daffodil picking is $4 per bunch and monies raised go to Plunket. CASH ONLY.

Q. Will there be horse and surrey rides again?
A. Yes! There will be horse drawn surrey rides. These will leave from outside the Carterton Memorial Club on Broadway, and travel down Broadway to the train station and return. The cost is $2 per child and $4 per adult. Reminder this is Cash only.

How to find Carterton -
Carterton is located in the Heart of the Wairarapa, between Greytown and Masterton. Its a 1.5hr drive from Wellington and 1hr from Palmerston North. Carterton stretches out from the Tararua Ranges to the coast and offers an abundance of activities from action seeking adventurers to wine tasting gurus. Come visit!
