Having had several outings at Australian festivals, 'A Call to Dance' is setting out to spread its infectious charm and joy, one dance move at a time.
'A Call to Dance' celebrates a place and its people, asking questions about heritage, belonging, public expression and cultural authenticity. Acclaimed choreographer and dancer Amrita Hepi will develop a 'Nelson Dance' after having one-on-one yarns with Nelsonians. She puts these moments together to create a work all about Nelson.
Daily conversations: Mon 21 & Tue 22 Oct: 10am, 10:45am, 11:30am, 12:15pm, 2:15pm, 3pm, 3:45pm. 40 mins each one-on-one session.
Bookings essential. Email info@nelsonartsfestival.nz to book a time.
Daily performances: Mon 21 & Tue 22 Oct, 5pm. Approx. 5–10 mins.
Hepi will perform the moves discovered that day. At the end of her time in Nelson, she’ll create a performance that celebrates the character and moments of rebellion in our city.
Nelson Dance Performance: Wed 23 Oct, 2pm
