WORD Christchurch

WORD Christchurch is excited to continue our Adventurous theme with a special presentation by Adrian Hayes, British climber, adventurer and sustainability campaigner, as he tells the story outlined in his book One Man’s Climb, an intensely personal account of his attempts to climb K2, the notorious second highest mountain in the world, in 2013 and again in 2014.

In this gripping book, with a foreword by Sir Ranulph Fiennes, the author seamlessly shifts between his guilt and struggles as a father amid tumultuous personal circumstances, the profound events on K2, and the powerful lessons for our lives in the world below.

Absorbing and self-reflective, his journey is as much a story of climbing a mountain as it is a compass for conquering the mountain within all of us. A deeply moving story of the beauty and brutality of life, and death, on the world’s most unpredictable and perilous mountain.

“When one tackles death head on, when life is stripped to those bare elements and when one is in complete connection with rock, ice, sun, sky and stars, our priorities in life take on a whole new meaning. I look at materialism, consumerism, vast possessions and flash cars with amusement… They mean nothing at 8,000 metres and, in reality, should mean little at sea level. None of them ever bring happiness or fulfilment and, indeed, merely add to the clutter and chaos of our lives,” says Adrian Hayes.

One Man’s Climb will be available for purchase and signing thanks to Scorpio Books.
