Jazz diva and Auckland based bi-lingual songstress Allana Goldsmith presents a night of stunning vocal and musical fusion for Auckland Matariki Festival program 2019.

This concert will present a new project featuring original songs written in both Te Reo Maori and English. Allana has collaboration with Dr Mark Baynes began in 2018 and has been based on a holistic and eclectic approach to music genres, including elements of folk, country, and soul.
“Allana Goldsmith’s unique approach to the music is highlighted in her original voice. It is tempting to think of songs sung in Te Reo Maori as being different or apart from European traditions. In Goldsmith’s case that is not so as she has maintained the integrity of both traditions.”– Gig review, the Creative Jazz Club (2013)

Allana has featured at many of the major festivals around the country, including most recently at this year's Tauranga National Jazz Festival where she SOLD OUT her Tribute show to Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan. She also featured in Waiheke International Festival (2017) and Queenstown Jazz Festival (2015) with her former band Wakakura.

Allana has currently released an Ep of five original waiata in Te Reo Māori from 2015 to 2018. Three of which were funded by Te Māngai Pāho.

“In many ways she is reminiscent of the great singers of the past. What is not redolent of past singers, however, is her preparedness to tackle adventurous modern projects.”– Gig review, the Creative Jazz Club (2013).

Presented by Toi Toi Music in association with Auckland Matariki Festival 2019
