Renoir's 'Luncheon of the Boating Party' (Le Déjeuner des Canotiers) is a key artwork featured in the French film, Amélie. Be inspired by this and other artworks in the film through illustrated talks and hands-on activities.
Being the eve of Renoir's birthday, there will also be cake! Join us for a delightful afternoon at the art gallery where The Phillips Collection Renoir original will not be on display, but related works from our Manawatū collections will be! No charge to participate, but a donation towards expenses is appreciated.
All Amélie of Palmy events include a photobooth, film quiz and the encouragement to create new works for our collective photo book. While you don't have to have seen the film to take part in AOP activities, it certainly helps! If you don't have your own personal copy, citylibrary.pncc.govt.nz holds a copy for lending or various sites online still sell the DVD.
'Amélie of Palmy' is a community project for lovers and yet-to-be lovers of the French hit film Amélie (2001). A series of creative events connecting aspects of the film to Palmerston North will lead us to a birthday celebration on Sat 1 June. Bienvenue!
