The Andrew Edwards Sprintcar Memorial Race will be held annually from 2017 at McDonalds Kihikihi Speedway. This year is the third running of this annual meeting dedicated to the late Andrew James Edwards, of Edwards Motorsport, who passed away after a Sprintcar accident on the 1st of January 2008.
Since Andrew's passing, the Edwards family have kept his legacy alive, continuing to compete in Speedway events all around New Zealand with Father Mark & Brother Brian going on to win New Zealand Championships including 1NZ in Minisprints while Andrews sister Ella has also had a successful stint in the Six Shooter class.
After a short hiatus, Andrews younger brother Brian has entered the Sprintcar class after a brief but successful venture into Midgets. Edwards Motorsport, along with a number of friends have decided to hold this event, where 19 Sprintcars will qualify for the feature event where pole is left empty for Andrew.
This years event includes the Rosetown Midget 30 Lap race, rich in history and featuring some of New Zealand's best Midget drivers.
