Auditions for Napier Operatic Society's production of "Avenue Q" are coming soon!

Winner of the Tony "Triple Crown" for Best Musical, Best Score and Best Book, Avenue Q is part flesh, part felt, and packed with heart.

The laugh-out-loud, puppet-filled musical comedy tells the story of a recent college grad named Princeton who moves into a shabby New York apartment all the way out on Avenue Q. He soon discovers that although the residents seem nice, it's clear that this is not your ordinary neighbourhood. Together, Princeton and his new-found friends struggle to find jobs, dates, and their ever-elusive purpose in life.

Inspired by the beloved children’s television shows ‘Sesame Street’ and ‘The Electric Company’, Avenue Q creates a puppet-filled world that is a little more reflective of the difficult, R-rated realities that we face when we learn that real life isn’t as simple as we dreamed it might be – but perhaps, suggests Avenue Q, life is all the more colourful and worthwhile for it.

Note: despite featuring puppets, Avenue Q is R-rated, featuring adult topics, offensive language, and even an onstage portrayal of puppet sex…

Avenue Q provides a unique challenge for all performers, whether they are performing the puppet characters or are interacting with them; it is a true collaborative ensemble piece of musical theatre. If you’ve never worked with puppets before, please don’t be scared or be put off from auditioning. The entire rehearsal process will be an exciting learning process and challenge for all involved.

Performance season is in September.
