AVENUE Q is a highly topical, laugh-out-loud musical that is part flesh, part felt and packed with heart.

Inspired by Sesame Street (but not for kids) Avenue Q is filled with gut-busting humour and delightfully catchy songs as it tackles sensitive themes such as racism, homosexuality and diversity. It’s reflective of the difficult, R-rated realities that we face when we learn that real life isn’t as simple as we dreamed it might be – but perhaps, suggests Avenue Q, life is all the more colourful and worthwhile for it.

Since beating Wicked for the three major Tony Awards in 2004 (Best Musical, Best Score and Best Book) Avenue Q has gone on to be one of the longest running shows on Broadway, and a huge hit on London’s West End. In 2018 its co-creator Robert Lopez became the first person ever to win all four major awards twice – Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony. His other credits include The Book of Mormon and the songs featuring in Disney’s Frozen.

Avenue Q is not the most upmarket of New York streets and is about as far away from Park Avenue as you can get, but it is home to some lively and off the wall characters performed by an unholy comedic alliance of humans and puppets!

Princeton, a bright-eyed college graduate, has just moved to this neighbourhood as he desperately tries to follow his dreams and discover his ever-elusive purpose in life. A tiny bank balance, the distraction of a busty blonde and a variety of weird and wonderful friends and neighbours lead Princeton on a hilarious story of self-discovery. Life may suck on Avenue Q but being jobless, homeless, politically incorrect, and having sex are just some of the topics featured in this terrific show.

Who is Avenue Q appropriate for?
Adults love Avenue Q but they seem a little, er, fuzzy on whether it’s appropriate for kids. We’ll try to clear that up. Avenue Q is great for teenagers because it’s about real life. It may not be appropriate for young children because Avenue Q addresses issues like sex, drinking and surfing the web for porn. It’s hard to say what exact age is right to see Avenue Q – parents should use their discretion based on the maturity level of their children. But we promise this… if you do bring your teenagers to Avenue Q, they’ll think you’re really cool!

Warning! Contains puppet nudity! Due to the adult content, sensitive themes and strong language we recommend Avenue Q as an R16 show, though younger teens may attend with their parents.

Ticket Prices start at $35 for adults and $20 for students.
