Charles Blomfield was born January 1848 in London, and emigrated with his family to NZ in 1862.
He was attracted to the native bush and began to paint pictures of scenery and historic landscapes of the area.
His most famous painting in 1875 was of the 8th wonder of the world, New Zealand's pink and white terraces. These were destroyed in 1886 by the Tarawera eruption.
The self-guided walk starts at Kaimataara lookout 35 Birkenhead Ave and descends into Blomfields bush from 251 Hinemoa Street.
