Bluegrass and Beyond.
Hot on the heels of an outstanding set at the inaugural Kiwigrass Festival the Bluegrass and Beyond boys are coming to East Coast Bays Folk Club in March.
The band takes a mix of traditional, contemporary and re-interpreted songs from bluegrass and beyond - and weld them together to make a fast moving, energetic, and exciting performance. The highlights are a selection of original, distinctly New Zealand songs from the talented songwriter and performer Cameron Bennett, and the blistering original guitar tunes from Colin Spier who is known to many as one of New Zealand’s finest flat pick guitarists.
John Olding, also a fine guitarist and lead vocalist on most of the songs, is well known for regularly capping off the legendary 121 Café Thursday acoustic evenings with a wide range of material that more often than not has the audience dancing in the aisles.
Underneath it all, driving and shaping the music from the bottom up, is an upright bass player known to many at East Coast bays for his instinctive feel and smiling stage presence, Pete Parnham.
John Olding – guitar, lead vocal
Colin Speir – guitar, banjo, BV’s
Cameron Bennett – dobro, vocals and BV’s
Pete Parnham – bass fiddle, BV’s
