The second in a series of special Brown Bag Lunches to celebrate 150 years of Wellington’s Botanic Garden. Bring your lunch and learn about the Garden’s Orchid Project.
Started in November 2018, this two-year project focuses on understanding the germination of orchids, including associated mycorrhizal fungi. It is also looking at the long term conservation of Orchid seeds and fungi through seed banking and cryopreservation.
A collaboration between Wellington Gardens, Victoria University, Te Papa Museum and Lower Hutt City Council, seedlings germinated through this project will be used in the living collections at the Wellington Botanic Garden, providing a source of plants for further research and conservation.
The project hopes to raise public awareness for New Zealand Orchids and highlights the threats due to habitat destruction, climate change and collectors.
Seating is limited, so please reserve your place through Eventfinda.
