This small display consists of a selection of artefacts recovered during the excavation of footings for a new toilet block at Highwic in 2010. This was to be the first new building at Highwic since 1884. During the excavation 873 sherds of ceramic and glass were found in a household rubbish dump outside the kitchen window.
These consisted of a mixture of tableware, kitchenware, food storage jars, bedroom, bathroom, lavatory and garden related ware. Other items include roofing slates, coal, metal work, such as a bolt and a moulded decorative mount.
The display has been mounted to celebrate New Zealand Archaeology Week which runs from 27 April until 5 May 2019.
