The Uncial Hand is one of the most popular scripts among modern day scribes. The most beautiful examples of the Uncial Hand can be seen in the Book of Kells in Trinity College, Dublin and The Lindisfarne Gospels in the British Library, London. The lettering, decoration and colour of these masterpieces are truly magnificent.
The Uncial script lends itself to many interpretations. It is wonderful to use for cards, names and quotations and colour can be added to these letters in various ways to bring the letters to life.
In this full day workshop Maggie Salter, expert calligrapher from Kapiti, will teach you the pen angles used, shape and construction of the letters, spacing and numerals. We will look at some letters that can have variations which make the script more interesting.
Finally we will look at how we can add some colour to these letters and then write a small quote or complete a card on good watercolour paper.
This workshop is best suited for students who have taken the Foundational workshop or who have some similar beginner experience. Each student will receive individual tuition throughout the day.
All students will receive comprehensive handouts and guide sheets. Pen and supplies provided. Coffee and tea will be available. Students will be responsible for their own lunch.
Class cost includes supplies for each student:
- Pilot 3.8mm parallel pen
- Extra pack of cartridges
- A3 layout pad
- Pencil, protractor, eraser, ruler and handouts
Students who have taken the Beginner Course and still have their supplies may receive a $20 discount on the course fee if they don’t require supplies.
Coffee and tea will be provided. Students will be responsible for their own lunch.
