Entries are now open for the ninth Catwalk Arts wearable art awards, held in Warkworth this August.
The Harbour Hospice fundraiser is focusing on recycling this year, and the innovative use of waste and re-used materials will be a judging criteria in all categories. In addition, any entry that contains at least 70 percent recycled materials will be eligible for the Recycle Award. Northland Waste is the first business to confirm sponsorship for this year’s event and supports efforts to reduce waste going to landfill.
Catwalk Arts includes categories for all ages and talents, including businesses and community groups, and families working together. Most categories offer a first prize of $500 and a tile made especially for the event by Morris and James.
This year’s competition features a new section for aspiring fashion designers of any age, with an opportunity to make and show an outfit that is more fashion than art.
Designers are encouraged to find creative ways to use materials found around the house, and to source additional items from the hospice shops, rather than buying new. There are 16 Harbour
Hospice shops from Wellsford to Devonport; their locations can be found at harbourhospice.org.nz/hospice-shops
Catwalk Arts will take place in the Mahurangi College Auditorium on Saturday August 24, with a matinee and an evening show. Entries close on June 21.
To request an entry form or to enquire about sponsorship options, phone Tui House on 09 425 9535 or email - lesley.ingham@harbourhospice.org.nz.
