NZTrio presents Toru Whā, a celebration of Matariki. Written especially for NZTrio by kiwi composers, exploring the meaning of Matariki in modern day Aotearoa.
This one-hour programme commemorates the arrival of Captain Cook on the shores of Aotearoa in 1769, as this year marks the 250th anniversary of those first encounters between Māori and European.
This performance contemplates and invites discussion on those first encounters and the resulting effects on our culture, and also the significance of Matariki in our Aotearoa/New Zealand today.
