Find out how Budget 2019 will affect children and young people, especially our most vulnerable.
Guest speakers:
Professor Innes Asher ONZM: Innes is a leading New Zealand Paediatrician and a children’s health representative of the CPAG Management Committee. She was a member of the Government’s Welfare Expert Advisory Group 2018-19.
Innes will present a child-focused analysis and commentary of the Budget 2019. She will discuss the Government’s advancement towards child poverty reduction targets as well as the government’s initiative to have “wellbeing” as the focus of the Budget 2019 and beyond.
Max Rashbrooke: Max Rashbrooke is a well-known author, academic and journalist, working in Wellington. Max writes about politics, economics and social issues. He is the author of Government for the Public Good (2018) and Wealth and New Zealand (2015) and the editor of Inequality: A New Zealand Crisis (2013). Max will analyse the effect of the 2019 Budget and other recent government policies on children and families in poverty. He will also stress the need to see these issues within the wider framework of economic inequality. Finally, he will highlight the extraordinary steps needed to meet the government’s very challenging child poverty reduction targets.
