Napier Repertory Players 2019 Youth Production debuts Children of The Poor by Mervyn Thompson.
An adaption of John A. Lee’s novel.
Children of the Poor follows the formative years of the autobiographical Albany Porcello, a disillusioned adolescent who comes face to face with desperate poverty, misery, crime, and the contempt of Presbyterian Dunedin. This is an ensemble play with the cast playing a number of characters. Thompson's script utilises theatrical devices including direct narration, chorus and movement to connect his audience with Porcello's emotional tale of poverty and hardship.
By arrangement with New Zealand Playmarket.
