Christ Church Tour - Christ Church Preservation Society

The Christ Church Preservation Society is hosting an open day that includes grave yard tours, a talk at the church and rides in vintage cars to the Silverstream Railway Heritage Museum.

Christ Church - Taita, 1854, is the oldest church in the Wellington region and one of the oldest in its original condition in New Zealand. It’s also thought to be the oldest complete building in Wellington.

Grave yard tours run at 1pm and 2:30pm
Talk at Christ Church is at 2pm

Rides in vintage cars to the railway Heritage Museum starts at 3pm, please note you will need to organise your own transport back from the railway museum. Steam train rides are available at the Museum.

Heritage in the Hutt 2019 examines the history of our city's architecture, industry, environment and our social history. Exhibitions highlight the spacious and curvy suburbs of the Hutt which were designed by early town planners. It was these innovative thinkers which gave our communities their distinctive curved roads, their community centres and parks.

Heritage specialists from Historical Societies, Archives, the libraries and Preservations Societies have partnered to bring Heritage in the Hutt - Off the Grid to life from 8 September to 30 September. Most events are free, koha donation or ask for an entry fee.
