51 years since the famous "Earthrise" photograph let humanity see the whole Earth for the first time, glowing in dark space: "ocean, cloud and continents, dizzy with life; the creativity of the cosmos pouring through a portal" (Drew Dallinger).

What has happened over those five decades? How did we end up in a climate crisis? Where do we go from here? Come along and hear Saul Chambers give an update from the Climate Reality Project.

Saul Chambers is an Onehunga resident who has worked in the areas of sustainability and climate change for many years. More recently he has begun working with the Climate Reality Project, a non-profit organization involved in education and advocacy related to climate change.

The Climate Reality Project came into being in July 2011 as the consolidation of two environmental groups, the Alliance for Climate Protection and the Climate Project, both of which were founded by Al Gore. Back in 2006 Al Gore's film An Inconvenient Truth started raising international public awareness of global warming.

Saul's talk is a great chance to catch up on the basic nuts and bolts of climate change and then get an up-to-date overview of the most recent climate trends and impacts worldwide. The session will finish with a look at the inspiring responses happening all around the globe as people start the transition to low carbon futures.

This talk is part of Onehunga rising, a week-long exploration of climate change in out local community. You can find more about Onehunga rising on Facebook.
