The Kaiapoi Art Expo in its 14th year is Waimakariri district’s largest visual art show and attracts large crowds every year. The Expo displays a wide range of art disciplines by local art groups and individual artists, all under one roof, over two days.

An event not to be missed, block out the weekend of July 13th and 14th, open from 10am to 5pm at the Kaiapoi Club, Raven Quay Kaiapoi. Entry is via gold coin only.

On display, will be hundreds of innovative works of artistic interpretations of life in our community through the skills of painters, potters, weavers, photographers and sculptors. Whether the medium is clay, metal, paper, canvas or fabric the result will be sure to fascinate anyone interested in the expression of art in its many forms.

Alongside the Expo is the School Art Expo sponsored by Bowden Environmental featuring an impressive display of artworks from a number of Waimakariri schools.

The Kaiapoi Art Expo offers emerging artists, from beginners to professionals the chance to be in the spotlight to sell, or display and develop their talents. Join the Kaiapoi Art Expo in celebrating 14 years at this supportive, social and inspirational event, celebrating the local arts in our community.

Guest artist on the main stage will be the prestigious Ivan Button. Ivan’s involvement in art began in the 1960’s with a background as a graphic artist and illustrator within the advertising industry. His passion for art has embraced all expressions: from the weird and exciting stuff of the 1960’s to the easy to understand impressionism of today – something he never believed he’d come to.

Ivan especially loves sketching on location for his reference. Subject matter that excites him ranges from Provence and Tuscany to English country landscapes, and a growing enthusiasm for New Zealand scenes.

In addition to the show, on Saturday you can have a go at being an artist for the day. From 10am to 3pm will be various mediums of art in a Have-A-Go event where you can try pottery, painting, photography, weaving and much more.

If that isn't enough to entice you out to Kaiapoi, the Blackwell's Department Store car park will be host once again to the now famous Live Ice Sculpting event kicking off at 1pm on Saturday followed by the Blackwell's Fire and Ice market from 6pm.
