The 1769 Garden is a botanical commemoration of the first encounters between local Tairāwhiti Māori and the crew aboard Captain Cook’s ship the Endeavour. It is part of the Waikereru Ecosanctuary, near Gisborne, a project initiated by Dame Anne and Jeremy Salmond.

The garden’s curator, Malcolm Rutherford, will talk about developing the garden, how it is used today, and will share stories that it holds through the design and species choices.

This event is brought to you by the Friends of the Christchurch Botanic Gardens as part of Tuia250.

Members $5; non-members $10.
