Come along for a fun 5 week afterschool clay class, from age 8 years upwards. Children will be able to spend time on their clay pieces, as well as developing their skills with different clay techniques. It is suitable for beginners as well as experienced children.
We will explore slab building, coiling and pinch pots, printmaking with coloured slips and other decorative techniques. Children will glaze their pieces in the last week (please note we skip a week in between, to allow time for drying and bisque firing work) then I will fire them, ready for pick up 2 weeks later.
What we’ll be creating
Weeks 1 -2: Coil pot vessel. Using coiling technique create a vessel, which can be extended into a jug or handled vase form. Add any modelling or decoration of your choice to create a unique fun piece. (eg, animals, roses, birds, incised decoration, words etc)
Weeks 2 - 3: Slab built candle holder house. Using slab building and templates create a house which has room for a tealight candle. Add windows and doors and any other decoration.
Week 4: Pinch pot bowls or tile printmaking. Using stencils and fabrics, create layers of colours and patterns onto tiles which can be made into hanging decorations using cookie cutters and templates.
Week 5: glazing pieces
Price: $100 per child, includes all materials, glazes and kiln firing.
Booking is essential.
