Australian bassist & composer brings a unique combo to CJC.

‘Elsen’s playing here is stylish, suave and seductive as lyrical lines twist and turn throughout, unfolding with striking urgency’ – Cutcommon Magazine

‘Elsen Price is an incredibly inspiring musician who seems to have no limits to his abilities’ – Jazz and Beyond

Elsen Price is an Australian Double Bassist/ Composer who specializes both as a soloist and as a collaborator in world music and new music.

Price has released a new solo album 'Descent of the Free' on ABC Jazz/ Universal, a forward thinking concept album demonstrating the new world of double bass, an instrument often found in background of music, but here used to create new unique sounds and act as a fully capable tool for composition and performance.

From humble beginnings, Price started playing the bass as a self taught 8 year old in the community orchestra in Tamworth, NSW. Later winning his first professional audition at 18, gaining a scholarship to study at Sydney Conservatorium at 20, then debuting as a composer/performer at leading festivals in Australia and Overseas after graduating.

Performance highlights include performing alongside Josh Groban, Mike Patton, Lee Ranaldo, Sharam Nazeri, Alireza Ghourbani and Adnan Karim. As a soloist, he has featured in Europe, Asia, New Zealand and throughout Australia. Also, Price composed for award winning Australian Film 'Dead Sunrise' and has had solo works for double bass published on Recital Music UK.

‘able to generate fizzing energy from the strings of his double bass, whether playing pizzicato or arco. This is energy that rushes from the speakers and instantly draws you into his musical narratives’ – Sydney Morning Herald

This performance will be a 2 hour performance of 'Descent of the Free' alongside NZ Jazz Musicians Eamon Edmunson-Wells, Ron Samsom and Chris O'Connor.

Featuring:

Elsen Price - bass
