Multi-faceted drummer Steve Thomas brings a new electric lineup to CJC.

This group is the culmination of Steve’s investigations into modifying and expanding the sound of the acoustic drum set using preparation devices such as electronics and found objects. Through the application of these devices, a new book of original music was penned for an ensemble that integrates both electronic and acoustic sound sources. These compositions provide the context for free improv, deep groove, and group interplay, and the group is looking forward to presenting this music at CJC.

Steve is an in-demand drummer based in Auckland, NZ who enjoys playing in a wide variety of musical contexts. As a sideman in the pop world Steve has collaborated with such artists as Avalanche City, Julia Deans, Tama Waipara and Hollie Smith as well as enjoying the chance to improvise alongside such luminary NZ jazz players as Nathan Haines, Jonathan Crayford, Kevin Field, Matt Penman and Will Vinson (UK).
