Cristina Beth MFA Contemporary Artist & Art Restorer is having a studio sale where she will be selling her original art and limited edition prints. She is offering 30% off her art during her time at Ponsonby Central.

Cristina began her formal artistic practice in her forties while raising her children alone.

She spent six years in full time study and achieved: a Certificate of Visual Art, from Rutherford High School and a BFA(HONS) and MFA(HONS) from Elam at Auckland University [2009]. Since then she has combined her art practice with working as a picture framer/art restorer at Homestead Framers in Henderson. She was trained by Charlie Rose in art restoration of oil paintings and de-foxing of paper works

Influenced by women artists working with repetition and everyday elements from the domestic environment, her work has been described as feminine feminism. As a child of the sixties Cristina grew up surrounded by colour in fashion, the home and garden, these elements still influence her today. Nostalgic objects offer a portal to the past which are used as a starting point in her art allowing for narratives to emerge.

Memory links and threads play an important role to the repetition of the everyday, the small action repeated, building upon itself till it creates another state. This offers a form of integration on both a conscious and unconscious level and this process of movement and action, allows for the work to resonate in the spaces created.

Come along to meet Cristina and find out more about her stunning work.

Guest book artist:
Cristina has invited Liz Constable from Book Art Studios to join her for the week.
LIz is a book artist | teacher | author.
Her style of handmade books are quirky, humours and never dull!
Each one is made with her own hands and often reflects her North Manchester roots.

She will have individual books for sale, her published books:
One Small Drop and DIY Notebooks made easy
And some new (not seen before) stunning collections of books.

Both artists will be in the shop at various times, but if you'd like to meet them both come along between 5-7pm on Thursday 5th October for a late night art shopping experience.
