Hear Leima Martinez Freire, the Asia Pacific Director of the Cuban Institute for Friendship with the Peoples. Martinez will explain new moves by the US government to deepen sanctions against Cuba.

The US sanctions not only have a deep impact on Cuba, but on individuals and organisations around the world wanting to build ties with Cuba.

US sanctions have been in place for almost six decades, since the early years of the Cuban revolution. Recent moves to tighten the sanctions are connected to Washington’s aggression against Venezuela. Cuba has sent tens of thousands of volunteers to help set up and staff medical clinics, teach in literacy programmes, and promote sports in Venezuela.

Martinez will discuss life in Cuba today. The Federation of Cuban Women completed their 10th Congress on March 8, addressing the challenges confronting Cuban women today as well as celebrating the success of the organisation.
