Day In the Bay

This cool free, action packed event attracts a huge crowd from all over Wellington – people who come to enjoy the hospitality of our South Coast. Performance artists provide entertainment as you stroll through the park and surrounding area. It’s a family fun day out – so bring friends, whānau, a hat and plenty of sunscreen.

Sign up for the swimming competition where you’ll be taken over to Tapu te Ranga Island before getting wet ‘n’ wild and making your way back to shore.

Enjoy the rides for kids and carnival games, then take your spot on the grass near Shorland Park’s famous band Rotunda to enjoy great music and entertainment OR a jiggle about.

Grab a good viewing spot by the beach for our famous Blessing of the Boats – a festival favourite that begins early afternoon. It’s where local clergy bless the boats (lined up in the Bay), granting them safe carriage and plentiful bounties. It’s become a bit of a tradition here.

Day in the Bay is a Summer City event and is attended by around 20,000 people each year. So put this date in your calendar.
