Travel with Steam Incorporated on this special diesel hauled excursion to the Art Deco Capital of Napier for the 31st Art Deco Festival.

A great way to experience Art Deco. Ride the rails in heritage carriages and hauled by an immaculately restored diesel locomotive on a special day adventure from the Kapiti Coast to Napier.

Marvel at the construction of the spectacular Manawatu Gorge and travel over many high viaducts on the journey to Napier. Option of joining at main intermediate stations en route including Palmerston North.

Indulge in a range of Art Deco Events during our Napier stopover. Taking place during the afternoon are: “Sound Shell Show and Shine”, “Once Were Wild Ones” street party, Vintage Car parade, rides & tours, Walking Tours, junior Charleston dance lessons' Art Deco Apple Pie Contest, Deco Spontane, Fashion Speaker Series.

A flying display will be in progress as we pull into Napier. A comprehensive Art Deco programme is available at with times and if applicable costs. Some events require early advance bookings to secure a place.

The diesel train will run from Paekakariki picking up at stations to Palmerston North (Paraparaumu, Waikanae, Otaki, Levin) then travel through the spectacular Manawatu Gorge to Woodville before heading towards the Hawkes Bay.

The train will be hauled by a powerful diesel locomotive and comprise our fleet of classic red “steel” cars. There will be an open-air viewing platform on the train. Also included is a buffet counter selling sandwiches, sausages, hamburgers, drinks and snacks, and a souvenir counter for all sorts of railway memorabilia. You are welcome to bring your own food on the train.

You can board the train at Paekakariki, Paraparaumu, Waikanae, Otaki, Levin, Palmerston North or Woodville.
