Joshua Guillemot-Rodgerson flys in briefly from Houston Ballet to perform Don Quixote with Samantha Grammer, presently studying at Quensland Ballet Academy.
The Ballet is full of humour. Don Quixote—his head swimming with ancient tales of chivalry—mistakes real-life events for the stories he reads. He assumes a young woman called Kitri, is his beloved Ducinea. After dancing with the Knight of the Mancha, escapes with her lover, Basillio, pursued by her disapproving father, Lorenzo—Con O'Brien and the man he would prefer she take for a husband, Gamache—Paul Watson.
In the end, after much confusion and hilarity, Lrenzo does find the pair, but Basilio, by faking his own suicide, dupes Lorenzo into granting him a final wish: his daughter's hand in marriage. Basilio makes a miraculous recovery and their wedding provides cause for celebration.
The original choreography promises to be a ballet at its most ambitious.
