Natural dyes in the textile sector take approximately only 1 % due to certain technical and sustainability aspects involved in production and application.
Fashion and art are our social skin, they manifest our market trends as well as our beliefs. Raise awareness with your actions. Add a story to every art piece you create. Make extraction of colour part of your art.
This workshop is suitable for artists, creatives, makers, nature enthusiasts.

Tutour: Arina Terekhova – architect, artist.
Made Christchurch her home in 2002. She currently works on the Christchurch re-build and involved with heritage buildings.
Arina has a degree in architecture from Siberia, Russia. Arina grew up with two grandmothers who taught her most of the arts and crafts she knows today. Living in a remote land fostered her respect for natural resources. She is now studying towards a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Anthropology and Heritage Architecture.

Te Reo sums it in the word - Kaitiakitanga. Everything we do in life has to be done sustainably, casting thought for the future.
A walk in the beautiful gardens to detect all printable leaves and seeds, ( approx. 2 hours walking).
What we will do: We will descend into the alchemy of natural colour, collect windfall leaves that print, make a print on fabric (x1 cushion cover size square) and paper (x1).
What we will learn: how to extract organic colours from fallen leaves and enjoy the permanent impressions on natural fibre.
Materials: everything provided.
What to bring: lunch or snack, if you have a piece of silk, linen or merino you would like to experiment on, a notebook.
Meeting at the Ilex cafe main entrance into the Information Centre side, by the river platform.
