“People do not decide to become extraordinary. They decide to accomplish extraordinary things.”

'Extraordinary Things’ celebrates the extraordinary talent of University of Waikato scholarship students and honours the life and legacy of Sir Edmund Hillary.

Featuring dance, music, theatre and Māori performing arts, as well as sports presentations and Q&As, this event highlights just what can happen with a bit of ‘Sir Ed style’ grit and determination.

Past and present Hillary Scholars from the University of Waikato take to the stage to share with the audience a glimpse into their version of ‘Everest’, focusing on the arts, sports or community pursuit that, like Sir Ed, they are passionate about achieving.

Marking the centenary year of Sir Edmund Hillary’s 100th birthday, all proceeds from the evening go to the Himalayan Trust. Founded by Sir Ed, the Himalayan Trust continues Sir Ed’s legacy in the Everest region by continuing his important work. Donations may be made directly to the Himalayan Trust.

The University of Waikato’s Hillary Programme is a scholarship which Sir Ed himself played a role in developing at the university. The programme inspires excellence, all-round development and leadership and supports students to follow their passions in sports, creative or performing arts while studying.

We look forward to you joining us for a extraordinary night of celebration on Wednesday 13 November, at the Gallagher Academy of Performing Arts. Doors open at 6.30pm.

Please register your attendance via the website link and bring your e-ticket with you on the evening.
