Selwyn Community Education is based at Selwyn College, Kohimarama, Auckland.

This course, new to our programme in 2019, runs over four Tuesday evenings 7 - 9 PM starting 7 May 2019.

If you enjoy drawing, have an interest in the figure, fashion images, clothing and illustration then you will love this course!

Working from images of the clothed figure, you will initially develop fundamental skills in drawing the human body. Experiment with techniques in collage, pencil and a variety of media to push your drawings into an exciting suite of works that incorporate movement, texture and colour. This course aims to extend confidence and ability in a fun studio environment.

Expected learning outcomes:
- Learn about fashion illustration and some of the key artists working in this discipline, both historic and contemporary.
- Experiment with and learn to use a variety of art materials and drawing techniques.
- Gain a basic understanding of figure drawing and how to apply it to the fashion figure.
- Create an exciting suite of drawings that incorporate movement, texture and colour.

Who should attend:
Adult education course: age 15+ all skills and abilities are welcome. Students should enjoy drawing, have an interest in fashion and wish to experiment and extend skills. Students may be considering fashion or design study and need extra pages for portfolio or sketchbook. Please be aware that we will be looking at fashion images that may contain nudity.

What to bring:
Bring coloured pencils (we recommend better quality pencils such as Faber Castell which leave colour on the page easily). Students at Selwyn Community Education are welcomed at Gordon Harris Art Supplies in Newmarket and are offered a 10% discount if you mention you're doing a course with SCE. All other materials (paper, drawing pencils, charcoal, watercolours, ink etc will be provided within the classes).

Our mission: To provide quality adult and lifelong learning opportunities which empower individuals in their personal lives and as members of society.
