Special Olympics NZ is hosting a movie night on Wednesday 6 November at the Lighthouse Cinema, Petone. Our movie is Ride like a Girl, the story of Michelle Payne and how her dream of winning the Melbourne Cup.
After leaving school at 15 and following family tragedy and her own near-fatal horse fall, her dreams were nearly all but over. But with the love of her dad and brother Stevie, Michelle overcame the odds to achieve the dream. 2015 was the year the dream was realised with Michelle winning the Melbourne Cup.

Special Olympics New Zealand is first and foremost a sports organisation for people with an intellectual disability, we provide year round sporting opportunities for over 6000 athletes in 13 sports across New Zealand.
But the Special Olympics is more than just sport, it’s about fun, friendships and team spirit; it’s about a feeling of belonging, and ultimately improving quality of life. Special Olympics changes lives in so many different ways.
Special Olympics NZ is a not for profit organisation, funds raise from this evening will help us in our goal to provide the best possible opportunities to our athletes.
