Develop practical skills to use in the film and television industry, and get ready to build your overall confidence and self-esteem as an actor with industry professional Mike Dwyer from Barefoot Casting!

Learn about different acting styles for film and TV, discover professional best practices and develop critical analysis skills.

This course will teach you to:
- Communicate and interpret acting concepts
- Develop critical analysis skills
- Recognise and evaluate acting forms
- Experience best professional practices in film and TV
- Meet film and TV industry professionals

The course structure is:
Day 1 – TVC (Commercial) Prep & Auditioning (learning a script sent prior to the course)
- Meet the camera
- Your cast-able self
- You and industry requirements
- Introduction to script and character analysis
- The 5 W’s, A Good I.D, Analyse, Critique, Interpret
- Auditions: perform a non-dialogue TVC script - everyone to get in front of the camera and have a go!
- Investigations: redefine & advance
- Review - critique as a group all non-dialogue TVC auditions. Learn by watching others perform.
- Discuss self-development and self-analysis.
- Homework - prepare, prepare, prepare!Refresh learning of the dialogue drama script. Refocus on previous learning. Make strong choices. Utilise new intentions. Process new direction and bring it all into Day 2!

Day 2 – Drama Prep & Auditioning (learning a script sent out prior)
- Refresh - The 5 W’s, Analyse, Critique, Interpret, Group rehearsals of script. Take all that you have learnt from Day 01 and inject into Day 02
- Auditions: Perform the TV drama script - everyone to get in front of the camera and have a go. All students will be a reader behind the camera as well.
- Investigations: redefine & advance
- Review - critique as a group all dialogue drama auditions. Learn by watching others perform.
- Discuss self-development and self-analysis.
- Parents are invited to watch the director’s picks of their children's TV drama scenes in the last hour of the course.

Mike Dwyer has worked as a professional actor for 19 years. He trained, performed and toured with The Questors Theatre in Ealing, London (87 – 90). In New Zealand he has had many screen and stage acting roles and has directed and devised theatre shows. He produced an adaptation of The Cherry Orchard (Herald Theatre 1998) directed Jackie Van Beek’s The Mayfly (Silo Theatre 2001) and directed a piece for the Short & Sweet Festival (2011).

He has worked in the New Zealand casting industry since 2000 and since 2005 has run Barefoot Casting with his brother Matt. Their casting credits include the feature films Mahana, The Dark Horse and The Most Fun You Can Have Dying; the TV shows Filthy Rich (Seasons 1 & 2), Camp – NZ search - US, and Cancerman – The Milan Brych Affair – NZ. They have cast for TV commericals worldwide.

Ham or vegetarian lunchboxes ($10 per day) can be ordered when you pay for the course or pre-ordered each morning.

Lunchboxes include:
