Every first Tuesday of the month, one of our curators unravels the stories behind a single iconic artwork currently on display at the Gallery. In April, Senior Curator, New Zealand and Pacific Art, Ron Brownson will unpick "‘I he 'api o 'eku Tamai/ In My Father’s House". This Tongan ngatu (painted barkcloth) is a work of Robin White and Ruha Fifita created in collaboration with Ebonie Fifita and the women of Haveluloto village in Tongatapu. Tongan ngatu is a renowned living tradition creating barkcloth artwork made by a collective of women. This particular wall-based fuatanga (large rectangular ngatu) is part of a series of works called "Ko e Hala Hangatonu: The Straight Path, 2013–16".

Limited places available, booking required.
