The Featherston Booktown Fish'n'Chip Supper has become a beloved, low-key glamorous way to kick off the Festival weekend. Come and rip into your fish'n'chip parcel, mingle with booksellers and listen to a local luminary. Past suppers have hosted speakers Geoff Robinson, Sir Richard Taylor, Lloyd Jones and Kate De Goldi. This year, we are delighted to have Greg McGee as our special guest. Greg is a quadruple treat, working in theatre, television, film and books, and has been awarded across all disciplines. He is perhaps best known for his first play, Foreskin’s Lament, which used rugby as a metaphor to critique the society of the day. Performances coincided with the 1981 Springbok Tour, giving the play a brighter spotlight and lasting influence. He went on to write documentaries about the Mount Erebus tragedy and ANZUS, TV cop shows, films, biographies and fiction, notably winning the inaugural Ngaio Marsh NZ Crime Fiction Award while writing under the pseudonym Alix Bosco. Greg McGee is a wellspring of stories and the Fish'n'Chip Supper is an enlightening and charming first stop in the Featherston Booktown programme.

Supported by Rose & Smith and the Wairarapa Racing Club.

$5 Bus transfers will be available to Rose & Smith from the Anzac Hall.
Buses will leave the Anzac Hall at 5.45pm and 6.15pm and leave Rose & Smith at 9.30pm and 10.10pm.
Please have $5 cash for the bus ticket to purchase your transfer on the night.

This is an event involved in the Featherston Booktown Festival on Friday 10th, Saturday 11th & Sunday 12th May celebrating everything to do with books, writers and reading.
The three-day programme includes writing workshops; poetry readings; talks by leading authors and illustrators; and a book fair including stalls with rare and second-hand books. There are also events specifically for children.
