New Zealand’s favourite collaborative group, Fly My Pretties will perform live in Picton as part of the Tuia 250 commemorations on November 23.

Fly My Pretties cast includes: Barnaby Weir, Anna Coddington, A Girl Named Mo, Hollie Smith, Lauren Barus (LA Mitchell), Mel Parsons, Ria Hall, Aaron Stewart, Age Pryor, Iraia Whakamoe, James Coyle, Jarney Murphy, Laughton Kora, Nigel Patterson, Ryan Prebble.

Tōtaranui 250 Trust General Manager, Chrissy Powlesland says inviting Fly My Pretties to be part of our local commemorations was a deliberate decision. “It’s precisely because of the band’s cultural diversity and willingness to speak out on national issues, that we wanted to invite the musicians to perform. We want to hold an event that encourages debate about the past, shines a light on the tangata whenua stories of our dual history, and provides an opportunity for real conversations about that journey,”

Fly My Pretties is an ever changing collective, offering a collaborative musical and visual show featuring fresh and established contemporary musicians and artists.

Cast member Ria Hall says: “Fly My Pretties has always been about celebrating diversity through music, so it’s fitting to be performing at an event which commemorates our unique tales of arrival. It’s also timely to address, acknowledge and learn our own history, to put our nation in good stead in the present through a lens of understanding. The good, the bad and the ugly.”

The stage utilised throughout the day to showcase cultural tikanga, with performances from members of our community, including groups representing Māori and Polynesia.

Other performers include Cass & Tee, H4lf Cāst, Rabbit Hole, Mideriwrattadoo, MBC Jazz Band and ukulele players.

This event is part of the Tuia 250 Encounters programme.
