On the Southern Ocean - Fishing & Birds

Tamzin Henderson is the owner of Henderson's, a boat chandlery and fishing supplies shop in Blenheim. In her spare time she is a photo journalist specialising in wildlife, nature and marine based photography. Secretly she is a bit of a twitcher but she prefers the term birdnerd.

After a trip spent chasing albatross around the Southern Ocean with Heritage Expeditions, Tamzin tried to combine her passion for seabirds, photography and fishing, to bring the cost of ocean travel down.

She tested her sealegs with two Cook Strait trips on board Sealord vessel Otakou before her ultimate challenge, two and a half weeks photographing in the South Atlantic on board tooth fishing vessel Argos Georgia. Her talk will cover stories from her time on board vessels around the Southern Ocean, photographs of the incredible wildlife and seabirds from the subantarctic islands, and her relationship with the New Zealand fishing industry.
