GOVIS is the network of technology and information professionals in NZ central government.

GOVIS 2019 Conference - Kaitiakitanga-ā-Matihiko - Digital Stewardship is New Zealand's premier government information and technology event. In the public sector, we are the kaitiaki of our land, environment, resources and the people of Aotearoa New Zealand.

We are here to protect and support them. That means that as guardians, we must think, plan, and manage with the future interests of all New Zealanders at heart. Digital stewardship or Kaitiakitanga-ā-Matihiko is about identifying our future digital challenges, to extend digital inclusion, to build skilled, resilient and trusted teams and technologies, and to ensure the security and well being of Aotearoa. Keynote speakers include:

Hon. Dr. Megan Woods, Minister for Government Digital Services
David Shanks, Chief Censor, Office of Film and Literature Classification
Richard Foy, Chief Archivist - Tumuaki, Archives New Zealand
Te Aroha Grace, Innovation Officer, Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei
Kaila Colbin, Co-founder of Boma Global and the CEO of Boma New Zealand
Maria Robertson, Deputy Chief Executive, Service Delivery & Operations, Department of Internal Affairs

The conference will close with a Conference Finale – Just Because You Can, Should You? Privacy and sensitivity are important, and being smart about how the results of data analytics are used is crucial—otherwise, we will compromise the trust of our citizens.

So just because you can, should you? We are the guardians of a wealth of data about citizens so come and listen to the panel’s thoughts on ethics, risk and whether doing something rather than nothing is a better approach? Join us for a thought-provoking two days.
