Be enlightened and enthralled by this year's speaker for our flagship event: Dr Linda Tyler's dynamic illustrated address will explore Aotearoa New Zealand's heritage through its artists - from paintings to sculpture to Maori carving and weaving. An expert on 19th century NZ art history, Dr Tyler is also a renowned art commentator, broadcaster, author, public speaker, academic, curator and Member of the Royal Society of New Zealand.

In her image-packed presentation, she will tell the stories behind works of art in all its forms, from intricately carved 18th century Maori paddles (waka toa), to Wairarapa scenes from the lens of 19th century photographers the Burton brothers and James Bragge, to the emergence of the Arts and Crafts movement. Linda has been writing on art, design, architecture and fashion since 1984. She's now an associate professor and Director of the Centre for Art Research at the University of Auckland, also directing the Gus Fisher Gallery in Shortland Street, and curating the art collection.

Linda also administers Window, an online and onsite student-curated exhibition space. A rare opportunity to hear this theme on our country's history by a speaker who's described by her peers as "...the consummate communicator" and "formidably well-informed".

Greytown Heritage Trust paid-up members entry by koha; non members $20; memberships ($20) welcome on the night.
