Kapiti's own concert series, Mulled Wine Concerts is renowned for bringing new and exciting works to audiences on the Kapiti Coast. On 21 July, they bring together a trio of stellar New Zealanders in a multi-media artistic extravaganza which will be sure to intrigue many people.

Is it a play? Poetry reading? Musical performance? Containing elements of all these things, the piece "It's Love, Isn't It?" was written by Philip Norman "for guitar, two reciters and the sound of the sea". It is based on a book comprising 58 love poems by Alistair Te Ariki Campbell and Meg Campbell, compiled by Alistair in 2008 following Meg's death. The paired poems chart the highs and lows of the fifty-year marriage of the Campbells. Tested by mental illness, infidelity, doubt and independence, their love remained strong to the end. The music is played by Matthew Marshall, while the narrator's parts will be taken by Royal New Zealand Ballet star Sir Jon Trimmer and personality of stage, screen and TV, Dame Kate Harcourt.

Also on the programme are solo pieces for guitar including Fantasia No. 7 by John Dowland, Farewell to Stromness by Peter Maxwell Davies, four traditional songs and Cinderella by Alexey Arkhipovsky, for guitar and electronic effects Described as “…a guitarist of superb technical accomplishment and a musician of perception and style” Matthew Marshall is one of New Zealand’s leading classical guitarists. He is currently Head of School at the Eastern Institute of Technology, Napier.

Former Wellingtonian of the Year, Dame Kate Harcourt is a doyenne of the NZ professional performing arts. A star of countless theatre, TV and film productions, she was honoured as DNZM for her contribution to theatre.

Paekakariki resident, dancer, painter, gardener, bon vivant, raconteur and wit, Sir Jon Trimmer has been a mainstay of the Royal New Zealand Ballet. He has performed with Dame Margot Fonteyn, Rudolf Nureyev, Erik Bruhn and many of the world’s top dancers and was awarded a knighthood in 1999 for services to ballet.

Mulled Wine Concerts presents Matthew Marshall, Sir Jon Trimmer and Dame Kate Harcourt at 2:30 PM on Sunday 21 July, 2019 at Paekakariki Memorial Hall, 96 The Parade, Paekakariki
