Formed in Edinburgh in 1990, Shooglenifty has always embraced a wide church of influences. The band draws in members from the Highlands and Islands, as well as Edinburgh, from traditional musical backgrounds, and those shaped by more experimental genres. A Shooglenifty concert is a celebration of all those forces and many more influences picked up in almost three decades together.

Scotland’s Shooglenifty have a serious international fan base and are famed for energised, contemporary roots material. Supremely dexterous and witty, the band’s lively, out-of-the-box performances mean they’re in constant demand around the world.

Coming to Hawke’s Bay for the very first time on their latest New Zealand tour, having previously performed at Womad Taranaki and at the Auckland Arts Festival, this will be a musical feast. Skip right up to the ceilidh, expect some electric new tunes, and a full-on set of old favourites and get ready to dance with these inventive, brilliant and slightly batty Scots.

This concert comes off the back of the band’s globetrotting recording projects in recent years, namely their five-star album Written in Water, produced in Rajasthan with Dhun Dhora, and the timely humanitarian anthem East West recorded in Galicia with Tanxugueiras.

“They are the nicest and gentlest of people, and then they go on stage to become monster musicians.” - Rainforest World Music Festival, Malaysia
