What are you influenced by? Who are your influences? Ben Throp, along with his hand-picked band of world class troubadours, aptly named The Intimate Strangers, will all be under the influence of musicians who have helped sculpt Ben’s songwriting to date.

This grand finale will showcase songs from Ben’s musical evolution, weaving in pivotal songwriters and musical elements that have been integral in shaping his own creations along the way.

The audience is in for a journey through the music of Bob Dylan, David Gilmore, Neil Young, Simon & Garfunkel, Beck and Radiohead, to name but a few, blending the relationship these artists have had on Ben’s original compositions.

Featuring Willie Devine on bass (Tropical Downbeat Orchestra), Jeff Boyle on guitar (Jakob), Scotty Smith on mandolin/backing vocals (The Kawekas), John Rae on drums (The Troubles), Ben Wilcock on piano/keyboards (The Jelly Rolls) and Hannah Fraser on violin (The Troubles).

Be prepared to laugh, cry, dance, stumble and sway your way through an experience only offered to those prepared to fall under the influence. For lovers of live unscripted entertainment, this is a band brought together for one night, the grand finale of the 2019 Harcourts Hawke’s Bay Arts Festival!
