The early history of mining at Puhipuhi.

Bring your lunch and munch while you listen to Northland author Diana Menefy talk about the mining operations in the Puhipuhi area before the development of the mercury mine. The discovery of silver-bearing quartz in the dense kauri forests of Puhipuhi in the late 1880s, lead to a short-lived silver rush.

For the last 38 years, Diana Menefy has been writing part-time, predominantly nonfiction and short stories for children and young adults. Her second novel Shadow of the Boyd won the LIANZA Esther Glen Medal in 2011. Her novel 1915 Wounds of War is the second in the Scholastic Kiwis at War Series. She has a picture book I Had a Brother coming out in July with OneTree House Publishing.

Recently Diana completed the first draft of a novel about the early mining in Puhipuhi and is currently writing and researching for Jack Morgan Museum at Hukerenui.
