From concept to finished artwork, we’ll explore different conceptual strategies to choose a composition, style and technique to then create a finished artwork. Suitable for those who already have some drawing/painting skills.
We’ll take a chosen piece of writing (either your choice or supplied) and take that from concept through to a finished illustration. We‘ll explore the strategy of using thumbnail sketches to quickly put down ideas and then take a couple of these ideas to concept drawing stage, looking at ideas of composition, scale and what elements of the drawing you want to have more prominence.
We’ll then investigate a variety of drawing and painting techniques that might work best for your chosen design and text before embarking on the finished piece.
By the end of the course, you’ll be able to:
- Use thumbnail sketches to explore ways of expressing an idea
- Expand some sketches to develop concepts
- Demonstrate different compositional techniques
- Choose styles to suit particular texts
- Create a finished art work for your chosen text
Bring sketch pad/paper and pencils.
