Auckland Library Heritage Trust Scholar, Chris Turnbull, will discuss New Zealand Imperialism in the Cook Islands.

Fifty years after the Treaty of Waitangi, colonial New Zealand took a second opportunity to shape the new government of a Pacific Polity. This talk discusses this meeting of Colonial and Island cultures in the Cook Islands and argues that Island leaders were significant in determining the outcome.

Bio: Chris Turnbull, an Auckland Library Heritage Trust scholar in 2018/19, is currently working on a PhD in Pacific History.
