In Conversation: Marilyn Jones, Lisa Munnelly & Sue Prescott

Marilyn Jones in conversation with Lisa Munnelly and Sue Prescott. Join these creative mavericks in an informal discussion around the exhibition Linear Impositions, as they riff on abstraction, line drawing, colour and materiality.

Artists Biographies:
Marilyn Jones is a Wellington based artist whose practice explores and interprets the interactions and relationships of line. Jones’ draws inspiration from modernist influences – from ‘drawing in space’ and collage techniques, to the contemplation of 1960s minimal abstraction.

Jones completed her Bachelor of Fine Art (Hons) degree at Whiti o Rehua College of Creative Arts at Massey University Wellington. She has been a finalist in several award shows, including the National Contemporary Art Award 2019, Parkin Drawing Prize 2017 and 2018, and the Wallace Art Award 2018.

Fashion, costume and multi-sensory experience connect Sue Prescott’s interdisciplinary creative practice, research and teaching. Programme Leader of Fashion and Senior Lecturer at Massey University, research into synaesthesia often informs Sue’s design practice. Underpinned by sustainable methods, her work occupies a position between the cultural, historical and social latitudes of fashion and costume, exploring and discussing the relationship of the body with environment. Sue has practiced as a fashion and costume designer and exhibited in the UK, India, Pakistan, Australia, New York, Finland and New Zealand.

An artist and senior lecturer within the College of Creative Arts at Massey University, Lisa Munnelly’s process orientated practice creates works that emerge and unfold over time. A signature of her work is the extension of drawing via the multimedia collaborations she forms with other artists utilising sound and moving image. Published both nationally and internationally, recent collaborations include ‘Resurfacing’ shown at the Broadway Gallery in Detroit (2019), and ‘Three Turns’ at the Fabrica Centre for Contemporary Art Brighton (2018). https://lisamunnelly.carbonmade.com
