Join us for this newly created mini-series which will explore some of the inspiring organisations, businesses and people of Christchurch.

We live in an increasingly creative and evolving city where groups and individuals are tackling some of the biggest issues of our time in new and innovative ways. Each term we will hear from a selection of people /organisations about the work that they do and the innovative twist(s) they bring to their fields.

10 Jun - Community Building with the Lyttelton Timebank
The Lyttelton Timebank was the first of its kind in New Zealand when it was established 15 years ago by Project Lyttelton. It is a way of trading skills, where time credits are exchanged instead of money – everyone’s time is equal and everyone’s skills are equally valued. Join Wendy Everingham to hear about how this incredible initiative helped the community bounce back after the Christchurch earthquakes and how it continues to contribute to a vibrant and connected community today.

17 Jun - Not business as Usual: Connect Chiropractors’ Koha model
Connect Chiropractors are a business that don’t charge for their services! – sounds crazy right? Instead of charging they offer their services for a koha, people are told what the services cost to run and are then invited to offer a koha of their choosing. The results? Higher incomes than in a standard pricing model with the difference being donated to local community projects! Come along and hear from the businesses founder Matthew about his vision for Connect Chiropractors and how they are doing business for good.

24 Jun - Place-making and City Building with Gap Filler - 1.5 hours
What makes a place? How can our public places be more accessible, participatory, creative and interesting? Join Gap Filler Co-Founder Coralie Winn on a walking tour of a few key Gap Filler place-making projects (some old, some new).

You'll learn more about how this award-winning social enterprise born from the quakes has changed and evolved to be doing work in Christchurch, all around Aotearoa/New Zealand and overseas and experience some of the projects first hand. Please note this will be held off site: We will meet at 12:30 pm on the grass at The Commons (former Crowne Plaza site), Kilmore and Durham Street South corner. Please dress warmly with footwear suited to a light walk. Walk will be moved to WEA in case of inclement weather - we will inform participants in advance if this occurs.
