You are invited to attend the final session in this series of workshops focused on the latest tools and trends in manufacturing commonly known as Industry 4.0.

We have been presented with some compelling stories of how the introduction of digital technologies to the manufacturing environment has enabled improved efficiency, reduced product development time, enabling product stewardship and, most importantly, connecting to clients and consumers.

While the examples used have been as NZ-focused as possible, there is still a strong temptation to say that these impacts, including any negative impacts, are well into the future in this corner of the South Pacific and that we all have time to adjust.

This is akin to burying your head in the sand and the lineup for this final workshop will outline why the need to think about these issues now is so important.

The Future is here!
What has remained true is the unique opportunity for Wellington in that we have strengths in both manufacturing and the digital technologies and this series has put the leaders of both sectors in the same room to identify and act on the opportunities that exist. In addition to the Industry 4.0 insights, it has also been an opportunity to network with your peers in the manufacturing sector.

The (virtual) reality of business in the future:
Virtual reality and augmented reality often conjure up images of video gaming and entertainment, but the enterprise potential is underrated. In 2021, the commercial sectors are predicted to represent more than 85% of VR/AR spending worldwide. Discover the range of cases where VR/AR can be used in business and hear about the misconceptions of the technology along the way.

Jeremy Dalton leads PwC London’s VR/AR team, helping clients across all sectors understand, quantify, and implement the benefits of virtual reality and augmented reality technology. As part of his mission to educate, connect and inspire, he is also a member of the World Economic Forum VR/AR Global Future Council and the advisory board of ImmerseUK, a cross-sector network for businesses, research and educational organisations in the immersive technology industry.

The Future Factory - Facteon from Auckland
Nathan Soich, the Marketing & New Ventures Manager for Facteon, will describe how Facteon grew out of Fisher & Paykel Appliances to now be a world leader in manufacturing facility planning and operation and provides these services on a global stage.

This story of how a development unit for a global giant such as Haier can still be run out of NZ is an example of the value of “organisation knowledge” as well as traditional IP. Industry 4.0 is embedded in everything they do and will present some real examples, as well as providing some insights into what the future may hold.

The role of AI
Emma Naji, the CEO of AI Advisory, is passionately working to empower companies to identify the appropriate and balanced use of technology, data and AI within existing infrastructure and resources. Emma wants to highlight common misconceptions, misdirection’s and illusions that are biasing decisions to combine human common sense and brilliance with relevant technology advances. She believes the wrong use of disruption has led to bleeding edge distraction and disconnection - the biggest cause of the uncertainty most feel in the face of AI.

To ensure the learning achieves impact in your business we welcome up to 3 attendees per company. The event will be followed by an industry reception, networking and refreshments.

Celebrate the science, technology and innovation industry and the reinvigorated Te Wā Heke Festival (previously known as the STEMM Festival) with a business to business networking evening that will include an address from Mayor Ray Wallace, guest speaker Dr Laurie Winkless and a sneak peek at a few of the exhibits on display at Te Wā Heke Festival.”
