Selwyn Community Education is based at Selwyn College, Kohimarama, Auckland.
This course, new to our programme in 2019, will run over three Monday evenings 7 - 9 PM starting 6 May 2019.
Excite your taste buds with a new flavour sensation: Indo Chinese Cooking, a fusion of Chinese and Indian cooking, is an amazing ethnic cuisine winning hearts world-wide. Learn to reproduce these savoury flavours at home with the ethnic flavours of Manchurian sauce, fresh garlic schezwan relish, chilli palm sugar ginger infusions and others. Each evening you'll assist chef Prateek in preparing dishes which you'll enjoy at the end of the class.
This Indian-style Chinese cuisine is said to have been developed by the small Chinese community who have lived in Kolcata (previously Calcutta) for more than a hundred years. Nowadays, Chinese food is a an integral part of the Indian food scene. Indo Chinese cookery is also popular amongst the Indian and Chinese communities in the USA. It is growing in popularity in New Zealand.
Foods tend to be flavoured with spices such as cumin, coriander seeds, and turmeric, spices not generally associated with Chinese food. Typical Indian ingredients such as ginger, garlic, sesame, chilli, pepper corns, yogurt are also incorporated into Chinese style dishes, creating a mouth-watering fusion of Indian and Chinese cuisine.
All ingredients are included in the course fee.
